LEGO® Education is giving 25 UK schools the chance to receive LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 STEM resources (and teacher training) – worth over £3000 - as part of a pilot for the Elite Engineering Programme (EEP), which aims to encourage more young people to consider careers in engineering.
Gareth Boldsworth, Director of LEGO Education explained; “We’re passionate about this programme. Too many young people confuse engineers with mechanics and don’t appreciate the breadth of the profession and how influential it is on all our lives. Our eclectic mix of celebrities all filmed a teaser for the campaign in which they emphasised that none of them would have been a success without them (engineers). ”
Celebrity support for this initiative includes Ross Brawn OBE (Motorsports engineer and Formula One Team Principal), Professor Tony Purnell (Head of Technology for British cycling), Faye Tozer (star of musical theatre and Steps), Zoe Tyler (Former Loose Woman presenter & vocal coach), Emma Pooley (Olympian Cyclist and Engineer), Kate Bellingham, former Tomorrow’s World presenter, Jamie Carter (Paralympian Wheelchair racer T34).
Schools can find out more and apply to receive the resource (and accompanying training) by going to www.eep-schools.org.uk. Hurry, though; the closing date for applications is midnight on 25th November 2013.
