The great thing about apps designed by teachers is that they tend to have been inspired by the identification of a genuine and immediate need within schools (rather than simply with an eye to potential profit). ExamPal, conceived by Andrew Buck, who teaches graphic design at Hastingsbury Business and Enterprise College in Bedfordshire, and developed with the help of some of his students, is a prime example – having noticed how stressful exam organisation can be for young people, he set about coming up with an app to help them personalise their test schedules and revision timetables; access and store key dates, venues, and information such as candidate numbers; share data with their parents’ phones; and much more – including a section on how to cope with anxiety.
